Access to affordable and reliable energy is one of the most significant constraints facing food systems in Africa. Food processing is critical for reducing post-harvest losses and improving nutrition, but many small- and medium-sized enterprises face high energy costs and an unreliable electricity supply.

On 20 May 2026, the Power for Food Partnership will co-host a live webinar for the launch of the white paper " Clean Energy to Nourish a Continent: Unlocking Renewable Power for Africa's Food Systems", co-authored by the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), Partners in Food Solutions, and SNV.

This white paper shows that shifting to renewable energy delivers a triple win:

  • ✅ Improved nutrition: Reliable processing reduces food loss and ensures more nutritious and affordable food reaches people.
  • 🌍 Climate resilience: Clean energy solutions cut greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen long-term climate resilience.
  • 📈 Economic growth: Lowering energy costs boosts the profitability and competitiveness of SMEs and drives job creation across the value chain.

This live webinar will bring together experts and participants to explore how integrating renewable energy and efficiency solutions can unlock these outcomes for farmers, food processors, and rural communities across Africa. Participants can expect:

  • A presentation of key findings and recommendations from the study
  • An expert panel discussion on moving from evidence to action
  • Insights on innovative financing, investment models, and policy actions needed to scale solutions
  • Interactive audience Q&A and closing reflections from partner organisations
