Powering regenerative food systems with renewable energy
We are building a movement that links regenerative agriculture with renewable energy
Smallholder farmers and agribusinesses across East Africa face growing challenges, including declining soil health, erratic weather, and limited access to reliable energy. These challenges threaten food security, rural livelihoods, and the health of ecosystems.
In many African countries, agri-food and energy systems operate in silos. The Power for Food Partnership is changing this by bringing regenerative agriculture (RA) and the productive use of renewable energy (PURE) together as powerful, interconnected approaches. When these two systems work in harmony, progress in one unlocks impact in the other.
By uniting farmers, agribusinesses, private sector actors, investors, and policymakers around a shared vision, we are scaling practical, inclusive approaches that strengthen livelihoods and building food systems that are renewable, regenerative, and resilient.

RA-PURE nexus
At the heart of the Power for Food Partnership is a simple but transformative idea: regenerative agriculture (RA) and the productive use of renewable energy (PURE) are not two separate solutions: they are one. Progress in one actively drives outcomes in the other.
When smallholder farmers restore soil health through regenerative practices and access renewable energy for irrigation, processing, and storage, food systems become more resilient, more productive, and more sustainable. This is what we mean by the nexus.

The partners
The Power for Food Partnership unites a diverse ecosystem of actors, from grassroots farmer organisations and local energy and agri-entrepreneurs to investors, researchers, and policymakers. Together, we co-create solutions, share knowledge, and drive long-lasting change.
Across Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda, these partners are already turning this vision into practice. Explore the organisations and people driving change on the ground.
